The 1st round was played in terrible conditions, with heavy bursts of rain, at times flooding the greens, however these were cleared during the round to ensure play could continue for the 18 competitors. Fergus Barron had an exceptional round posting a 69, with Danny Hartley on 77 and Chris Gaunt on 78.

The afternoons weather was kinder, and this reflected in the scores, Fergus Barron’s lead started to slip on the 10th where after putting his first tee shot out of bounds and then getting into problems in the rough, took a 9.

With further problems on the 14th and 15th,for Fergus, the top of the leaderboard became tight, with Danny Hartley, Chris Gaunt, and Ben Crowther , pushing for the lead.

Ben Crowther finishing his 2nd round with a 70, and total of 150, Chris Gaunt with a 71 and total of 149, Fergus Barron taking 80 for a total of 149, leaving Danny Hartley needing a par at the last to avoid the Championship going to a three way play off, a good tee shot to the last, and two putts secured the victory.

Danny will have his name on the trophy, which is a cabinet containing a club of George Sargent, who was the professional at Dewsbury Golf Club before emigrating to America and winning the 1909 US Open, this will be placed on the wall in the down stairs bar.

Well done to Danny who is the official Club Champion for the next 12 months.

Finally many many thanks to everyone who helped during the tournament, without them this Championship would not have been the success it was.
