Matildas Dream Charity Golf Tournament kicked off its first annual event on the 22nd October at Dewsbury Golf Club.
The charity golf day started out as a day to raise money for a 5 year girl named Matilda Denton who is suffering from Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. The aim, to raise much needed funds to aid her recovery and help the family in such a difficult time.
Matildas Dream will now host an annual event at Dewsbury Golf Club and help other families with children suffering from this terrible illnesses.
The first event had a lot of interest from local players with everyone excited about the day. A brand new VW Golf as the hole in one prize on the 16th. Mulligans on offer (option to buy a free shot).Trophies for the Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin and the Matildas Dream trophy for the winner.
The conditions made for a difficult Round of golf but the players were more interested in the charity and not concerned about the driving wind and rain.
The players gathered on the first tee for photos along with Matilda and her family and the players watched with smiles as Matilda took to the tee for the first drive followed by Eve taking the second drive.
It was now time to get the tournament underway.
Ashley, Matildas uncle went out in the first group in order to be first back to the club house and watch the following groups come in.
The families and partners of the players gathered outside the club house to cheer in the players on the 18th and give a sense of real tournament golf.
Once all the players had finished it was time for refreshments and a carvery and we were joined by our family and friends.
The prizes were given out to the winners with Shane Allnutt winning the first Matildas Dream tournament with a solid round.
The raffle and auction helped raise £1300 for Matilda and everyone had a fantastic day.
A huge thank you to Dewsbury Golf Club for the support. Dawn for the amazing food. Maybe Hire for supporting the event with the hole in one prize (VW Golf). Everyone who donated prizes.
I know he doesn’t like the attention but a special thank you to Billy Legg for the support showed to the event and his efforts.
We are currently in discussions with Dewsbury Golf Club to arrange a date for the second event which we hope will be bigger and attract a lot more players.
A great day supported by great people to raise funds for such a brave little girl.
